About the Dog...

Originally named Grit Solutions LLC, Co-founder Jimmie Griffiths was an Environmental Chemist for DuPage County Public Works in Woodridge, IL where a two-year pilot study of grit removal systems was being conducted.  Throughout this project, several analytical procedures, unique to testing municipal grit, was perfected.  With encouragement from industry professionals, Grit Solutions LLC was formed in May of 2003. 

Grit Solutions performed over 130 studies and analyzed over 600 samples.  2011 saw a restructuring in the company as growth was inevitable.  As a result, Grit Solutions LLC was purchased by Jimmie Griffiths, and the formation of Black Dog Analytical, LLC was the result.  Launching in January of 2012, the new company still offers the same grit sampling services as Grit Solutions, but has added additional services over the years. 

In January of 2020, Black Dog Analytical expanded services and employees in order to capitalize on an ever-growing market of grit analysis.  Mike Zickus, Ph.D. was brought on to bring his expertise in analytical testing and instrumentation to the field of grit analysis.  Together, Jimmie and Mike have a combined 40+ years in analytical testing and more than 15 years of grit analysis.
